L’université Laval au Canada en partenariat avec l’Université virtuelle africaine (UVA) lance un programme d’études en sciences informatiques.
En prélude au lancement à travers l’académie Internet d’un programme d’études universitaires en sciences informatiques de l’université Laval au Canada, en partenariat avec l’université virtuelle africaine (UVA) et celle de Douala, une conférence de presse a eu lieu samedi dernier aux Ecoles doctorales à Akwa. Il s’agissait d’imprégner le public d’une nouvelle méthode d’étude qui démarrera en septembre prochain : des études à distance à travers l’outil Internet. Comme l’expliquaient Patricia Lapointe, coordinatrice de ce programme et le Dr. Mvogo Ngono Joseph, ledit programme utilise les dernières technologies en matière d’enseignement à distance afin de garantir le même niveau d’études que pour les cours dispensés à l’université Laval. Le diplôme obtenu est l’équivalent du Baccalauréat canadien de l’université Laval (Bac+4). Les sessions sont directes avec les professeurs depuis l’université Laval pour les cours et les TD. Mais l’encadrement se fait sur place par les tuteurs. Autrement dit, les étudiants pourront suivre les cours en direct et même poser des questions depuis le Cameroun à leur professeur du Canada qu’ils verront par ailleurs à l’écran. La presse a voulu savoir si les problèmes d’infrastructures, de connexion et aussi d’énergie ne seront pas un handicap pour ce programme assez sophistiqué. Les deux conférenciers ont tout de suite rassuré en expliquant qu’un matériel est en train d’être mis sur pied ici. En ce qui concerne la connexion et l’énergie, le réseau universitaire du Cameroun installe également des équipements pour que tout aille pour le mieux. Pour un début, un groupe de 30 étudiants seront recrutés selon les critères d’excellence : être titulaire d’un Bac scientifique, avoir obtenu une note supérieure ou égale à 12 sur 20 en mathématiques et dans les autres matières scientifiques.
L’UVA propose un programme en sciences informatiques en formation initiale, les autres formations étant des formations initiales. L’université virtuelle a été conçue en 1997 par des experts de la Banque mondiale. La nécessité est aussi née du besoin d’offrir une formation de qualité aux jeunes Africains, c’est pour cela que les institutions financières ont mis en place l’UVA. Les frais de scolarité s’élèvent à 900 dollars (630 000 francs Cfa) par an alors que sur place au Canada, ils sont estimés à 10.000 dollars (7 millions de francs Cfa), hébergement et autres frais non compris. Le premier programme en sciences informatiques a vu le jour en 2004 dans cinq universités africaines, notamment au Sénégal, en Mauritanie, et au Bénin.
